Lucianis Pizzeria & Grill in Fort Washington, no hand soap at sink, hit with 14 violations by Montco Health Department inspector; threatens legal action

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 21, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Lucianis Pizzeria & Grill in Fort Washington was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Sign notifying customers of establishment inspection report being available upon request found to be obstructed by other licensing and not visible to the public.

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. Sample document emailed during inspection.

  • Employee observed handling ready to eat bread rolls for sandwiches with their bare hands. Facility instructed on proper glove use during inspection.

  • (2 times repeat violation)Paper towels lacking at front pizza area hand sink. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.

  • Soap lacking at front pizza area hand sink.

  • 4 heavily dented cans of tomato sauce found in basement storage area. Facility voluntarily discarded.

  • No discard date markings on facility prepared and opened foods. Use by date markings, no more than 7 days after opening or preparing foods, are required on ready-to-eat foods or prepared foods, held at the establishment for more than 24 hours and stored under refrigeration. Date marking regulations emailed during inspection.

  • Employee personal food and cigarettes stored inside pizza prep refrigerator with foods for customers.

  • Food handler lacking hair restraint.

  • Absorbent yellow sponges observed in ware washing area.

  • (2 times repeat violation)Knife stored in crevice of cold prep and pizza prep refrigerators. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.

  • (3 times repeat violation) Two chest freezers in basement storage area observed rusting with damage to gaskets and lids with damage to units around gasket areas. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.

  • Facility lacking quaternary test strips. (used to measure sanitizer) 

  • Two of the basement chest freezers observed with black mold-like residue and rusting on interior/exterior and gaskets of units.

  • Vents on top portion of facility grease hood system observed obstructed by large plastic material board facility had made and placed in front of vents. Facility was instructed that this obstructs hood system of proper operation and it was removed during inspection.
