Montogmery Mall Starbucks hit by Health Dept for fruit fly like insects observed at back prep area, hot water lacking at front hand sink behind check out

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Starbucks in Montgomery Mall was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Hand sink at back prep area obstructed by trash can. COS – facility relocated.

  • Immediately available hot water lacking at front hand sink behind check out – hot water observed at all other required faucets. 24hr follow up will take place to ensure immediately available hot water is observed at all required areas.

  • Fruit fly like insects observed at back prep area. Facility instructed to clean and sanitize effected areas as well as contract professional pest control immediately and provide MCOPH with service report within ten business days. EHS provided contact information during time of inspection – email or fax report.

  • Facility storing mop heads mixed with retail food items at back storage area shelving.
