The Bucks County Department of Health conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 27, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Murphy’s Beef and Ale was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 2 violations were found.

Murphy’s Beef and Ale has a long history of “out of compliance” inspections having passed only 2 inspections since June 2012.

  • June 28, 2012- 6 violations
  • December 13, 2012- passed inspection although 5 violations were cited
  • June 27, 2013- 3 violations with the food borne illness violation involving the soda guns as is the case in the most recent inspection
  • December 9, 2013- 8 violations 
  • June 9, 2014- 12 violations  including, “There is slime accumulation in the soda gun holder at the bar. Scrub clean then sanitize. Maintain daily to prevent slime growth.”
  • December 2, 2014- 5 violations including, “There is mold accumulation on the lip of the ice chute in the ice machine and in one of the soda gun holders at the bar.”
  • June 1, 2015- 6 violations
  • December 3, 2015- NO violations cited, at all
  • June 28, 2016- 2 violations including, “Concentration of chlorine sanitizer in a sani-bucket was too high.”
  • December 5, 2016- 5 violations including, “One of the soda guns at the bar contain slime accumulation.”
  • June 7, 2017- 2 violations
  • December 5, 2017- 5 violations
  • June 14, 2018- 6 violations including, “Debris on splash guard inside ice machine.”
  • December 28, 2018- 3 violations
  • June 26, 2019- 2 violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Debris in soda guns at the bar.
    -Debris on splash guard inside ice machine.
    Clean and sanitize affected areas. Maintain clean to sight and touch.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/27/2019
  • Hair restraint lacking for food handler. A hat was used.
    Employees shall wear hair restraints such as hats, hair coverings or nets, beard restraints and clothing that covers body hair, that are effectively designed and worn to keep their hair from contacting exposed food; clean equipment, utensils and linens; and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles.
    (b) Exception. This subsection does not apply to food employees who present a minimal risk of contaminating exposed food, clean equipment, utensils, linens and unwrapped single-service and single-use articles. These food employees may include employees such as counter staff who only serve beverages and wrapped or packaged foods, hostesses and wait staff.   Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.
