The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 10, 2020.* As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Katie’s Family Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Deli Slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
- Observed heavy dust accumulation on the hood filters above the grill area.
- Observed an accumulation of black filth inside soda fountain nozzles in the front counter area.
- Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed mineral like build up in the interior corners of the low temp dish washer.
- Dishes and utensils observed in the hand wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing.
* The Pennsylvania Chronicle publishes information as it becomes available. The Department of Agriculture sometimes released information with delays.
