The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/29/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Olympia Pizzeria & Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

This latest inspection marks the eighth inspection Olympia Pizzeria & Restaurant has not been, “In Compliance” according to reporting by The Philadelphia Inquirer:

  • Oct 5, 2016- 9 violations with 4 food borne risk factor violations.
  • Oct 7, 2016- passed follow-up inspection with no violations.
  • Mar 31, 2017- 9 violations with 2 food borne risk factor violations.
  • Sep 26, 2017- 8 violations with 5 food borne risk factor violations.
  • Mar 9, 2018- 11 violations with 2 food borne risk factor violations.
  • Aug 29, 2018- 9 violations with 2 food borne risk factor violations.
  • Apr 11, 2019- 5 violations with 1 food borne risk factor violations.
  • April 22, 2019- no violations cite but Health Department stated, “MCOPH received a complaint that the facility is operating during normal business hours with its front door propped open.At time of investigation the facility was observed with its front door prepped open. Facility was instructed to keep the door closed until they could provide the proper pest control protection.”
  • Oct 9, 2019- 6 violations with 2 food borne risk factor violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food uncovered in reach in freezer by front counter- repeat violation.

  • Lacking proper dates marking on sliced cheeses and lunch meat in prep unit cooler

  • Several cold holding units lacking accurate visible thermometers

  • Common name label lacking on squeeze bottles at cooks line-repeat violation.

  • Front door open at initial time of inspection (allows access for vermin)

  • Domino sugar stored in open original bag in basement

  • Boxes of single service containers stored on floor in basement

  • Lacking test strips for chlorine sanitizer

  • Floor underneath shelving in walk in cooler unclean
