Panera Bread King of Prussia fouls 6th straight inspection; Rust build-up and peeling paint on shelves in walk-in cooler

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/26/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Panera Bread in King of Prussia was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to reporting by The Philadelphia Inquirer this latest inspection marks the sixth consecutive time the restaurant has not been found, “In Compliance” following an inspection:

  • Oct 31, 2016- 6 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • Apr 13, 2017- 4 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • May 23, 2018- 5 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • Mar 15, 2019- Complaint inspection- 3 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.
  • Aug 29, 2019- 5 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violation.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Current MCOPH license not posted at time of inspection. Facility had 5/31/19 posted. Facility must apply for duplicate license within 5 business days if can not locate current MCOPH license.
  • Facility lacking a current MCOPH CFSM. Facility has 10 business days to submit reciprocity application or submit proof of registration in an approved food safety course. MCOPH CFSM reciprocity application can be downloaded @ www.health.montcopa.org
  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor in walk in cooler.
  • Rust build-up and peeling paint on shelves in walk-in cooler.
