The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 17, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Papa Johns in Beaver Falls was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 3 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed a significant presence of gnats in the ware washing area and some in the food prep area. The gnats were congregated around an uncovered garbage can half full of food waste. Standing water in the area also is serving as an attractant.
  • Observed standing water around the hot water tank and grease trap in the ware washing area. Employee stated the leak was from the grease trap. Rust stains indicate it has been occurring over some time.
  • Trash receptacles are not insect resistant. The lids have been cut to allow for easy disposal but does not all for covering them when not in immediate use. Gnats too numerous too count were observed around the trash can in the ware washing area.
