The Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program conducted an expected follow-up retail food inspection on 7/24/2020 following a complaint. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the McDonald’s Restaurant on Penn Ave in Pittsburgh was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The fry dispensing freezer does not have a working air thermometer, it is reading 63F when the air temperature if 40F.
  • The ventilation hood filters for the fryer stations have accumulated grease on them. Clean.
  • Large number of fruit flies under the dish machine.
  • There is a lot of water pooled under the dish machine. Keep this area dry to help prevent pests.
  • The ventilation hood is not pulling steam and other vapors properly. When food is added to fryers a┬álarge amount of visible vapor is seen rising into the kitchen. This must be repaired.
  • Facility is not following PA Dept of Health order stating that employees must wear masks. Some employees at the start of the inspection had the mask down below their nose or mouth.
