The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/25/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Pied Piper Diner Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Cardboard is being used on dry storage shelving.
  • Observed eggs, and peeled potatoes, stored directly on the floor in the downstairs walk in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
  • Gaskets of the two door baine marie along the main cook line have observable old food splatter, and are starting to deteriorate.
  • Observable encrusted grease on the sides of equipment, wall behind, and floor under equipment along the main cook line.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Prepackaged nut rolls, cookies, muffins, and sticky buns are not labeled properly with the name of product, ingredient statement, net weight, distributed by statement and/or nutritional facts.
  • Prepackaged nut rolls, cookies, muffins, sticky buns are not labeled to clearly indicate any “Big 8” allergen ingredients and / or the allergen warning statement.
  • Preset tableware is not being wrapped to cover the lip contact surface.
  • There are several burned out lights in the kitchen. Photos taken for documentation.
  • Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in Diamond Group Cold Hold Unit.
  • The is observable ceiling damage above the True Freezer/Food Prep line. Photos were taken for documentation.
  • Water is being captured with a towel in the bottom of the two door baine marie at the end of the main food prep line.
  • Observed breaded chicken and french fries, in the True freezer, stored open with no covering.
  • Observed sliced onions, peppers, peaches, and tomatoes, in the walk in cooler, stored open with no covering.
  • Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the Cold Hold units, and walk in cooler, are not being date marked.
  • Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required.
  • There is observable grease like build up on the sides and top of the True freezer across from the main cook line.
  • The shelving in the cold hold units, and walk in coolers have an observable amount of old food spillage on them.
  • Several tiles on the floor in the basement walk in cooler are broken.
