The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted a expected re-inspection retail food inspection on 7/2/2020 following receipt of a complaint. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Panache Wood Fire Grill in Blue Bell was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to reporting by the Philadelphia Inquirer the Panache Wood Fire Grill has failed to be “In Compliance” at eight inspections, passing only three of eleven inspections. Each of the “In Compliance” inspections were follow-up or reinspections after an, “Out of Compliance” inspection:

  • Oct 18, 2017- Inspection Type: Routine-Complaint- 15 violations with 5 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Dec 14, 2017- Inspection Type: Follow-up- passed with 1 lower level “Lack of Good Retail Practices” violation.
  • Jun 29, 2018- Inspection Type: Routine: 26 violations with 10 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Jul 26, 2018- Inspection Type: Re-inspection- 6 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Nov 9, 2018- Inspection Type: Routine-Complaint- 32 violations with 8 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Nov 26, 2018- Inspection Type: Re-inspection- 13 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Nov 28, 2018-Inspection Type: Follow-up-  passed with 1 lower level “Lack of Good Retail Practices” violation.
  • Dec 17, 2018 Inspection Type: Re-inspection – passed with ZERO violations
  • May 15, 2019 Inspection Type: Routine- 17 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Nov 18, 2019 Inspection Type: Routine- 19 violations with 6 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.
  • Jun 18, 2020- Complaint inspection- 27 violations with 12 food borne illness risk factor violations cited.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking current MCOPH CFSM.(Repeat violation) Facility has employee signed up for exam July 2nd 2020. Facility must submit proof of registration in an approved food safety course to MCOPH.
  • Handwashing sign lacking at handsink at outside bar. (Repeat violation)
  • Improper usage of asterisks next to consumer advisory and correlating items on menus-new menus are on order. (Repeat violation)
  • Common name label lacking on secondary dry good containers in dry storage room (2 times Repeat violation)
  • Food handler lacking hair restraints. (Repeat violation)
