Pizza Mia in Bellefonte fumbles inspection; 6 nozzles on the soda machine had a build up of a dried, brown residue

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/16/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Pizza Mia was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the PA Food Code as evidenced by incorrect responses to food safety questions. The FEC for this facility was not available by phone during this inspection. Agent tried to call (left message for call back) and also tried to face time the FEC with no response.
  • A corn meal ingredient storage container, in the dough prep area, is not labeled with the common name of the food.
  • Observed 6 nozzles on the soda machine had a build up of a dried, brown residue. All the nozzles were removed and in the process of being cleaned and sanitized during this inspection.
  • Observed a food employee making a pizza and making dough without a hair restraint such as a hat, hair net or visor.
  • Old food residue observed in the hand wash sink, indicating uses other than hand washing. Hand wash sinks are for hand washing ONLY!
