The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 3/9/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Playa Bowls was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 11 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Women’s toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.
  • Bathroom sink is soiled and has a limescale buildup. Toilet, and floors, are soiled and not being cleaned at a regular frequency.
  • Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible in the juicer cooler and three door food cooler.
  • Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in front hand wash sink, food residue in the rear kitchen hand wash sink indicating uses other than hand washing.
  • Floors at base of equipment and under equipment are soiled and are to be cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean.
  • A ¬†food Employee was observed washing their hands at the food prep sink rather than the designated hand wash sink.
  • Observed all refrigeration and freezer equipment door seals, handles with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces.
  • Dishware, food storage pans stored directly on the floor where they are exposed to splash, dust, and other contamination.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed rear hand sink drain leaking onto the floor. Three bay sink faucet head is broken and sinks cannot be filled properly.
