The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/7/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Qdoba Mexican was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 20 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

This latest inspection marks the fifth straight failure to meet regulations according to the Health Department:

  • August 25, 2016- 9 violations
  • January 31, 2017- 8 violations
  • February 9, 2018 14 violations
  • January 16, 2019- 14 violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking posted signage stating “MCOPH inspection report available upon request.” EHS emailed facility copy during time of inspection.
  • Facility lacking CFSM. Facility stated full time management level employee in possession of active Serv Safe certificate. Facility provided with reciprocity application during time of inspection. Facility granted 10 business days to submit application or provide proof of enrollment in next available food safety training course (facility instructed that upon successful completion of course immediately apply for CFSM certificate).
  • Facility lacking paper towels at multiple hand sinks in facility.
  • Facility storing equipment at multiple hand sinks in facility.
  • Items observed inside of two-door under counter cooler adjacent to grill station observed outside an approved range – 52F. facility voluntarily discarded contents of unit -1 spray bottle of lime juice / 1 gallon bottle of lime juice, one container of cut vegetables, one container of bacon, one bin of cut cilantro greens. EHS confirm items not prepared on site stated refrigeration required.
  • Facility two-door under counter cooler located adjacent to grill station observed above an approved cold holding temperature – 68F. contents of unit were discarded and unit was voluntarily taken out of service. Facility stated unit was unplugged. COS – facility plugged in unit and unit was observed within an approved range – 40F. Facility was permitted to place unit back into service.
  • Facility lacking easily readable thermometers at multiple refrigeration units.
  • Facility observed preparing ready to eat food item (guacamole) with exterior skins of avocado in contact with interior flesh of avocados stacked in pile at front prep area without pre-washing items. Facility stated items were not known to be pre-washed. Facility voluntarily discarded contents of one box of avocados.
  • Multiple food handlers lacking hair restraints during active prep.
  • Wet wiping clothes stored outside of sanitizer buckets at multiple food prep station.
  • Facility storing cleaned and sanitized equipment on unclean shelving (grease like accumulation and food spillage) at back metal storage shelving. COS – facility instructed to remove items from shelving and clean and sanitize shelving unit before cleaning and sanitizing equipment stored on shelving.
  • Single service food items stored with food contact surfaces exposed at front prep / service area.
  • (3 times repeat violation )rust accumulation observed on shelving on two-door under counter cooler at end of cooks line. Facility instructed that multiple repeat violations may lead to future immediate legal actions.
  • Deep groves and discoloration observed on multiple mobile cutting boards hanging in back prep area.
  • Facility lining pans under grill in front prep area with tin foil.
  • (2 times repeat violation) exposed taco pastries/bowls stored in wooden wicker basket on cooks line. Facility instructed to replace with approved non-absorbent food grade storage vessel.
  • (2 times repeat violation) food spillage / accumulation / mold like growth observed on interior of two-door under counter cooler at end of cooks line. Facility instructed that multiple repeat violations may lead to future immediate legal actions.
  • Leak observed from faucet at prep sink in back prep area.
  • Facility observed drying mop in bucket at mop sink.
  • Heavy grease like accumulation / food accumulation observed under metal shelving housing food prep equipment in back prep area. COS – facility cleaned during time of inspection.
