The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/17/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Rita’s Water Ice was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility has 5 business days to submit reciprocity application for certified food protection manager

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection

  • Employee beverage stored near food related items

  • Hand washing sign lacking at hand sink

  • Lacking single service towels for hand sink.

  • Common name label/Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.

  • Cleaning chemical stored near food related items

  • Visible thermometer lacking in one water ice unit

  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint

  • Employee face mask not covering nose

  • Stirring equipment stored in soiled stagnant water and using bucket of clean water to clean in between uses.(inspector explained proper clean/sanitize procedure between use)

  • No hot running water at mop sink (must repair) send all repair reports to inspector

  • Soiled mop water stored in mop bucket.
