Roach-like insect observed; Tiffin Indian Cuisine Bryn Mawr fumbles restaurant 5th straight inspection, 9 violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/15/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Tiffin Indian Cuisine was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

According to reporting by the Philadelphia Inquirer has passed only one inspection since February 2017:

  • Feb 15, 2017- complaint inspection finds 8 violations including 1 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Mar 3, 2017- complaint inspection finds 9 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Apr 12, 2017- complaint inspection finds 11 violations including 2 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Aug 14, 2017- passed inspection with 4 lower level violations
  • Jan 22, 2018- 12 violations including 2 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Aug 21, 2018- 10 violations including 3 food borne illness risk factor violations
  • Feb 5, 2019- 13 violations including 3  food borne illness risk factor violations

 

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.
  • Roach-like insect observed in basement Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH
  • Screen for back door is not secured to frame. (allows access to vermin)
  • Cell phone stored on cutting board COS
  • Food uncovered in several cold units
  • Food handler lacking hair/beard restraint COS
  • Wet wiping cloths not stored in a sanitizing solution COS
  • Aluminum foil lining on some cooking equipment in kitchen(must remove)
