Rocks Italian Deli bumbles inspection in Rockledge; 7 times repeat violation- Montco Health Department threatens legal action

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/24/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Rocks Italian Deli was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 7 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Chlorine sanitizer concentration in sanitizer buckets tested above 50-100ppm required concentration. Facility diluted solution to 50ppm during inspection.

  • (7 times repeat violation) Foods packed in facility for retail sale missing ingredient and allergen information and net contents. Facility moved all containers to deli case during inspection. Retail labeling guidelines emailed during inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Food handler at deli counter lacking a hair restraint.

  • Utensils at deli area stored in standing water.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Drying rack by 3 compartment sink observed lined with absorbent cloths. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • (3 times repeat violation) Damaged floor tiles observed by 3 compartment sink and by dry storage rack. Facility manager stated work had begun to be done on floors but delays have now happened due to Covid-19. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Carpet material mat observed on floor by mop sink.
