Rodent-like droppings, cigarettes on prep table, Norristown’s Chan’s Garden slapped with 13 inspection violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 13, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Chan’s Garden in Norristown was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee observed consuming food and/or beverages in a food prep area.
  • Cigarettes stored on prep table
  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.
  • Rodent-like droppings observed in facility. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH
  • Facility storing food in open original aluminum cans
  • Food stored on floor kitchen and walk-in refrigerator
  • Foods uncovered in most cold units
  • Foods stored in green baskets not completely covered
  • Food prep sink filled with miscellaneous items
  • Food item being prepped at 3 bay ware wash sinks
  • Facility reusing egg crates(must discard)
  • Rusty shelves walk-in refrigerator
  • Floors under cook line equipment unclean
