The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/7/2020.  As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations La Cucina Italian Eatery was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The restaurant voluntarily closed with the inspector making the following comment in the report:

The facility has voluntarily closed and must remain closed until written permission is given by MCOPH. Contact MCOPH for an opening inspection.

Facility must ensure hot water temperature at hand wash sink is minimum 100 degrees F and at ware wash sink minimum is 110 degrees F.

If there is a 2nd follow up or more needed facility will have to pay $330.00 each follow up before they schedule a follow up appointment.

Facility is not permitted to prepare food items until given written permission from MCOPH.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Lacking single use paper towels at hand wash sink in pizza area.

  • Leak at faucet of hand wash sink in pizza area.

  • Facility reheating food at steam table.

  • TCS food items stored in steam table observed with internal temperature less then 135 degrees F.*

  • TCS food items held in display refrigerator observed with internal temperature greater then 41 degrees F. Facility voluntarily discarded 1 tray eggplant, 1 pan cooked broccoli and 1 container cooked eggs.*

  • Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in secondary containers and/or packaging.

  • Display unit at pizza area unable to keep TCS food items at 41 degrees or below. Facility may not use equipment for holding TCS foods until repaired and given written permission from MCOPH. Send completion work order stating internal temperature to MCOPH.*

  • 2 times repeat violation- Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Unapproved insect control device observed in pizza area.

  • Cardboard lining shelves in prep unit.

  • Lacking proper sink stoppers for 3 compartment ware wash sink.

  • Lacking adequate hot water under pressure throughout Facility. Facility has voluntarily discarded all food items prepped on 8/6/20.

  • Water pooling in a bucket under compressor unit in basement walk in refrigerator.

  • Damaged wall inside of right walk in refrigerator.

  • Lacking adequate lighting in ware wash area.

*The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food. These violations are considered, "Food Borne Illness Risk Factor" violations.
