“Spatulas stored in stagnant room temperature water on cooks line,” Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in Huntingdon Valley slapped with 14 violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 8, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Iron Hill Brewer was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. Some parts of a bodily fluid clean up kit were observed in liquor room. Facility was emailed sample document during inspection.
  • Bar hand wash sink observed being used as a dump sink with metal strainer pan stored in basin and rag hanging into basin.
  • No soap provided at bar hand wash sink.
  • Hand wash sink on cook’s line lacking hand wash reminder signage.
  • Can opener blade observed with dried food residue.
  • Large container of tortilla chips stored directly on floor at cook’s line.
  • Bar utensils stored in stagnant room temperature water.
  • (2 times repeat violation) Spatulas stored in stagnant room temperature water on cook’s line. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Scoop without a handle stored inside bulk spice container on cook’s line.
  • Clean coffee pots stored under hand washing sink waste pipe at coffee/iced tea station.
  • (2 times repeat violation) Soda gun at end of bar by server ice bin lacking drip tray holder and drainage line. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Facility found to be storing large soiled pots inside of mop sink basin.
  • Pooling stagnate water on floor under storage racks next to walk-in freezer. Condensation drainage line from walk in freezer and floor drain was in this area. Leak was not observed.
  • Unisex employee restroom lacking a covered trash can.
