Spring House Whole Foods inspection finds Fly-like insects observed throughout hot foods department, 8 violations

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/20/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Whole Foods was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage stored on food prep surface in meat room.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Fly-like insects observed throughout hot foods department. The Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH. EHS left business card with PIC.

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor inside walk in seafood freezer.

  • Fan guards in walk-in cooler are unclean.

  • Dust build-up on ceiling tiles surrounding ceiling vents in bakery department.

  • Heavy ice build-up ion ceiling inside seafood walk in freezer.

  • Light out in hood ventilation system in hot foods department.
