Ted’s Bar and Grill in Harrisburg

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on October 22, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Ted’s Bar and Grill in Harrisburg was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

Ted’s Bar and Grill in Harrisburg also failed its regular inspection on May 30, 2019.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • An open employee’s beverage container was observed on a shelf over a food preparation table.
  • Accumulation of biofilm around the ice machine deflector plate in the kitchen area.
  • Observed an accumulation of grease and food debris on the floor and equipment wheels under the grill/fryer area.
  • Employee preparing food without a hair restraint or beard cover.
  • Chemical spray bottles without a label or name to identify the product.
  • Observed food utensils being stored in sanitizer solution in between use, which does not allow time for air-drying.
  • Observed a bain maire cold holding unit with an ambient temperature of approximately 53 F, rather than 41 F or lower, as required.*
  • Areas of peeling paint on the wall behind the server coffee/salad area in the kitchen.

* The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit  and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit . The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food.
