The Bucks County Department of Health conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 13, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations The Sports Zone- Southampton was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • There is no food safety manager certified by this Department (CFSM) on duty as required. A CFSM must be on duty at all times the facility is open and/or food is being prepared. A completed application (SA-71) for CFSM, or proof of enrollment in an approved safety class must be submitted to the Department within the next 7 days. An updated course contact list will be emailed to the facility.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/20/2019  
  • Several violations were observed regarding ware washing:
    – The PIC* indicated that staff wash and rinse wares but do not sanitize
    – The 3-compartment sink is provided with only 1 stopper (3 are required) – immediately purchase for proper set-up.
    – The faucet does not reach the wash and sanitize compartments. Provide extension or replace to adequately reach all compartments.
    – The automatic dispensing system for wash detergent leaks excessively when turned on. Repair system.

    The Department reviewed proper set-up of the 3-compartment sink with PIC: 1) Wash Compartment – 110F minimum hot, soapy water; 2) Rinse Compartment – Stoppered, clean/hot water or addition of sprayer; 3) Sanitize Compartment – 200 ppm Quat in 75F water.

    During inspection, the Department showed PIC proper dilution of the sanitizer solution.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/20/2019

  • Mouse droppings were observed on the floor in the kitchen sporatically. In addition, chew marks were seen on a glueboard monitoring trap. Properly clean and dispose of droppings. Fill in gaps around the sink drain lines. Contact PA licensed pest control operator to treat and monitor for rodents.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/13/2019  
  • The quaternary test strips at the facility no longer take readable measure of sanitizer. Provide new quat test strips.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/20/2019    
  • The floor, particularly at the floor/wall juncture, requires a general cleaning due to grease accumulation and debris. Degrease, clean and maintain.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 12/14/2019
