Walmart in Willow Grove fails Health Department inspection with 16 violations

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/13/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the NAME was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 16 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking a current MCOPH CFSM. Facility has 10 business days to submit reciprocity application or submit proof of registration in an approved food safety course.

  • 3 times repeat violation:Lacking paper towels at hand sinks in bakery, deli and hot foods departments, and produce department. All hand sinks were supplied with paper towels at time of inspection. Note: repeat violations may lead to legal actions and the issuance of a citation.

  • EHS observed employee frying fully cooked-frozen chicken wings in deep fryer. When products temperature were taken some of the chicken wings reached the correct internal cooking temperature of 165 degrees f. Other wings in the same fryer basket were observed at temperatures from 115-165 degree F. EHS had facility re cook entire batch of wings until internal temp of 165 was reached. EHS suspects facility is cooking to many wings at a time and that facility should decrease the amount of wings cooked in a single batch.

  • Defective ambient air temp thermometer in island open air refrigerator containing packaged raw chicken. Temp reading -30 degree F. Actual ambient temp 38 degree F. Replace or repair thermometer

  • Food preparation sink in deli unclean and obstructed by various items in basin and on drain board.

  • Tongs stored in hand sink at deep fryer area.

  • Some tongs with rubber handles at rotisserie chicken area observed with chipping, dried loose Rubber handles. Replace.

  • Interior of ware wash machine in bakery unclean with built on residue on bottom of unit. Clean

  • Dried milk spillage on floor in retail walk in refrigerator milk area.

  • Excessive amounts of packaged and loose food observed on ground under retail shelving throughout all retail areas containing food. Aisles 1-27 clean.

  • Excessive amount of flour and sugar spilled on retail shelving in aisle 14. Clean.

  • 3 times repeat violation: Hole cut out in several ceiling tiles above prep areas in bakery. Repair or replace ceiling tiles.

  • Walls corner cove missing or damaged at area next to ware wash machine in bakery. Repair

  • Floors at deep fryers worn down to exposed stone. Floor must be repaired to be smooth and cleanable.

  • Leak observed coming from roof or over head piping dripping onto retail floor at dairy open air refrigerator area. Repair.

  • HVAC air intake vents in bakery observed with dust accumulation. clean.
