10 violations at Jem Restaurant in East Norriton; “few fly like insects observed in back ware wash area” fouls 7th inspection since September 2016

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/8/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Jem Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

Jem Restaurant has been, “Out of Compliance” seven times since September 2016 according to county records:

  • Sep 29, 2016- 11 violations with 2 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Mar 30, 2017- 11 violations with 6 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Sep 27, 2017- 14 violations with 7 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Dec 27, 2017- Water outage response- no action taken by Department
  • Mar 14, 2018- 8 violations with 3 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Aug 17, 2018- 14 violations with 5 food borne illness risk factors. Fly like insect observed in back room.
  • Mar 13, 2019- 16 violations with 4 food borne illness risk factors.
  • Oct 9, 2019- 15 violations with 8 food borne illness risk factors. Mouse like droppings observed on the floor near mop sink and on shelf in first waitstaff serving area

 

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking sign posted in public view stating MCOPH food inspection reports are available upon request

  • Lacking proper hand wash sign at hand sink in ware wash area

  • Asterisk lacking next to consumer advisory and corresponding food items on menus. (Repeat violation)

  • Squeeze bottles behind front counter lacking common name labels. (Repeat violation)

  • Few fly like insects observed in back ware wash area. Facility has 10 business days to submit pest control report to MCOPH. Fax to 610-278-5167.

  • Ice scoop handle stored in public serving ice inside ice machineĀ 

  • Single service lids on top of ice machine stored with food contact surfaces exposed

  • Torn door gasket on silver king reach in cooler

  • Outside dumpster lid open at initial time of inspection

  • Floor tile damaged to right of ware wash sink
