14 violations at Happy Garden in Oreland says Montco Health Department

The Montgomery County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/25/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Happy Garden was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 14 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • (2 times repeat violation) facility lacking certified food safety manager (CFSM). Facility provided proof of enrollment in approved course scheduled during February 2020. Facility stated course had been canceled and no rescheduled date had been provided. Facility instructed to contact course provider for update on rescheduling of course and provided date to MCOPH. facility instructed to immediately apply submit reciprocity application upon successful completion of course and post certificate for public view at facility.

  • Multiple items stored in front of and around the front hand sink at the entrance to the kitchen obstructing usage. Facility voluntarily relocated items during time of inspection.

  • Facility storing multiple food items inside of open original containers – bulk rice, etc.

  • Garlic oil mixture stored at room temperature on cooks line. Employee stated item was mixed/prepared during daily morning prep and would be discarded within an approved four hour window. EHS discussed proper use of item logs during time of inspection.

  • (2 times repeat violation) prepared TCS food items not meant for use within 24hrs lacking approved date markings. Facility instructed that prepared TCS or opened packages of TCS food items not meant for use within 24hrs are required to display at discard date not to exceed seven days following the preparation or piercing of packaging of the items.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Facility lacking ambient thermometers in inside multiple reach down freezers.

  • Facility storing food items in unlined colanders – facility relocated items to approved for storage container during time of inspection.

  • Facility lining storage containers for egg rolls and other items with absorbent paper towels. Facility voluntarily removed items during time of inspection.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Frozen prepared items stored in plastic shopping bags. Facility instructed to stored items in food grade storage containers.

  • (2 times repeat violation) unmarked, unlocked reach-down freezer in customer dining area. Facility instructed to lock and provide signage.

  • Facility storing food items / condiments inside of open original metal containers. Facility relocated items to approved food storage containers.

  • Facility lining one section of interior shelving at walk in cooler with cardboard. Facility voluntarily removed during time of inspection.

  • Shelving of multiple refrigeration units unclean with debris accumulation. Facility instructed to clean during time of inspection.

  • Shelving at dry storage area unclean with food spillage. Facility instructed to clean during time of inspection.
