The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/28/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Sol Levante Bakery was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • At time of inspection employees in facility observed without face masks on and facility was allowing customers inside without face masks. All employees placed face coverings on during inspection and facility was instructed that all customers must wear face covering while inside.
  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. Sample document emailed to facility.

  • Employee water bottle stored on prep table.

  • Metal bowl stored in prep area hand sink basin.

  • Milks with sell by date of 7/23/20 found in 2 door under counter refrigerator and walk-in refrigerator. Facility voluntarily discarded.

  • Facility found to be storing TCS food items (croquettes, meat sandwiches) at room temperature in customer service area without proper time/temperature logs. Proper log use was instructed during inspection.

  • Toothpaste, toothbrushes, and mouthwash stored with clean utensils and on prep tables in kitchen.

  • Bottles of medication and vitamins stored above prep table in kitchen.

  • Facility lacking a food probe thermometer to take internal food temperatures.

  • (2 times repeat violation)Foods displayed in customer self-service area not wrapped or covered. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Facility found to be providing samples of food items in customer service areas without any coverings or utensils for customers to use to take samples. All samples removed during inspection.

  • Soiled utensils and utensil scrubbers stored in food prep sink. This sink is to be used for food prep only and all ware washing must be conducted in 3 compartment sink.

  • Employee personal food stored with foods for customers in refrigerators in kitchen. Facility must separate employee food and food for facility.

  • Ice scoop stored inside ice machine.

  • Clean cutting board stored behind 3 compartment sink faucet.

  • Dust accumulation observed on grease hood filters.
