The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/30/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations New South Ocean Chinese & Japanese Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Soap dispenser at back kitchen hand wash sink empty. Facility refilled.

  • (2 times repeat violation)Raw chicken found stored above produce and ready to eat sauces in walk-in refrigerator. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Cut lettuce stored at room temperature at sushi station. Facility voluntarily discarded and was instructed on time temperature log use for TCS foods outside of temperature control.

  • (3 times repeat violation)Commercially vacuum sealed fish in walk-in refrigerator found thawing while still under vacuum seal. Fish was still frozen to touch. Facility removed fish from bag for proper thawing. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Absorbent cloth stored in direct contact with sushi rice in rice cooker.

  • Facility storing cut lettuce in water at sushi station. Facility voluntarily discarded during inspection.

  • (4 times repeat violation)Food containers found stacked on top of and in direct contact with exposed foods in top bain marie portion of cook’s line prep refrigerator. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Metal scrubs and rubber gloves stored in food prep sink.

  • Uncovered tray of cooling rice stored next to back kitchen hand wash sink and not protected by a splash guard or covering.

  • Foods stored directly on floor in walk-in refrigerator. Bags of rice stored on floor in dry storage area.

  • Food handler lacking a hair restraint.

  • Scoops lacking handles stored inside bulk dry foods in dry storage area.

  • Clean cutting board stored behind faucet of food prep sink.

  • Absorbent cardboard materials found lining floor under cook’s line.

  • Grease hood filters observed with grease dripping down.
