24 violations at  El Combo Loco Norristown; Rodent-like droppings observed on window sill, Roach-like insects observed throughout basement storage area

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 8/25/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations El Combo Loco was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 24 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage stored inside ice machine in deli area.

  • Hand sink in kitchen blocked.

  • Packages of Pake Taxo snacks lacking English labels.

  • Four containers of Clover Farms milk in retail cooler past sell-by date.

  • Multiple food items in prep unit observed with internal temperatures between 46F and 49F: sliced tomatoes, shredded cheese, shredded lettuce. Facility removed all items to freezer for rapid cooling.

  • 3 times repeat violation: Proper date marking lacking on prepared food items in refrigeration units.

  • Containers of pesticide observed in food prep areas on first floor and throughout basement storage area.

  • Container of bleach stored among food items in deli area.

  • Rodent-like droppings observed on window sill next to display retail cooler containing dairy products. Rodent-like droppings observed throughout basement storage area. Facility has 10 business days to submit proof of professional pest control treatment to MCOPH. Documentation can be emailed to jcoyle@montcopa.org.

  • Roach-like insect observed throughout basement storage area. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH. 

  • Food stored directly under hand sink waste line in kitchen.

  • Food items in secondary containers being stored in unfinished basement. Ceiling above storage area does not meet MCOPH code.

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor in basement.

  • Panko stored in open original bag on top of ice cream freezer.

  • Wet wiping cloths not stored in a sanitizing solution.

  • Tongs stored on oven door handle along cooks line.

  • Bowl/cup used as scoop stored obtain dry goods/food items.

  • Boxes of single service food contact items stored on floor in basement.

  • Ice build-up in ice cream freezer.

  • Raw wood used as leg to support cooks line equipment.

  • Raw wood above entryway in kitchen.

  • Rust build-up on shelves inside retail display cooler containing dairy items.

  • Interior of two door cooler in deli area unclean.

  • Damaged wall tile in kitchen next to basement door.
