The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/1/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations El Primo Produce Junction was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 24 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • MCOPH Certified Food Sanitation Manager Certificate not posted at time of inspection.

  • Employee beverage stored on food prep surface.

  • Hand sink obstructed at time of inspection.

  • Expired items in walk-in cooler. Voluntarily discarded.

  • Raw food stored over ready to eat food items in walk-in cooler.

  • Cutting board with deep grooves and heavy discoloration at kitchen prep units.

  • Interior top of ice machine unclean.

  • Chemical spray bottle lacking label.

  • Chemical spray bottle stored amongst food and/or food contact items.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Product lacking common name/ingredient labels in retail coolers

  • Common name label lacking on secondary dry goods containers.

  • Fly-like insects observed in kitchen. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH.

  • Facility using trash can as table-top for food prep.

  • Proper separation of hand wash sink and food prep table lacking in kitchen.

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor in walk-in cooler.

  • Food handler lacking hair restraint.

  • Knives stored in stagnant water between use.

  • Ice build-up in ice cream freezer.

  • Cardboard lining shelves.

  • Absorbent cloth lining surface underneath cutting board.

  • Fan guards unclean in Pepsi beverage cooler.

  • Lacking light shield or shatterproof bulb in Pepsi beverage cooler.

  • Insufficient lighting in Canada Dry beverage cooler.
