24 violations, Colmar’s Golden City Chinese Restaurant botches inspection “tooth brush on clean rack in area with tea brewer”

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 4, 2019 As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Golden City Chinese Restaurant in Comar was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 24 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • (4 times repeat violation)Facility lacks a written procedure for managing a fecal or vomiting incident. Sample document emailed at time of inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • (3 times repeat violation)Many employee beverages found on and above food prep surfaces, utensil storage areas, on dish machine, and inside refrigeration units throughout facility. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • (3 times repeat violation)Steel scrubber, tongs, and heavy food residue observed in kitchen hand wash sink. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Hot water handle not working for kitchen hand wash sink at beginning of inspection. Facility repaired by end of inspection.
  • Two heavily dented cans of coconut found on prep table in kitchen.
  • Cooked ducks hanging in walk-in refrigerator found uncovered.
  • Can opener blade observed with old food residue.
  • Sanitizer bucket in kitchen with rags had no detectable sanitizer solution.
  • Garlic in oil and pooled shell eggs stored at room temperature on cook’s line. Facility voluntarily discarded during inspection.
  • (4 times repeat violation)Prepared and opened TCS ready to eat foods held under refrigeration in facility for longer than 24 hours missing required discard date marking not to exceed 7 days from the prep/open date. Date marking regulations were emailed at time of inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • (2 times repeat violation)Employee medicine observed on prep table in kitchen. Facility relocated medicine during inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Chemical cleaner bottles stored with clean plates in kitchen and in side room with ice machine.
  • (7 times repeat violation)Bottom of side exit door in kitchen leading to outside observed with a large gap and door sweep in disrepair. Screen door observed with large gaps around perimeter and not sealed. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • (5 times repeat violation)Employee clothing hanging on clean dish rack in ware washing area. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may lead to legal action.
  • (4XR)Facility storing body lotion, soap, hair brush and tooth brush on clean rack in area with tea brewer. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.
  • Many wet wiping cloths throughout kitchen areas are not being stored in sanitizer solution.
  • (2 times repeat violation)Facility found to be storing many items for restaurant outside in back area (food containers, mops, mop bucket, large cooking pots, fish tanks). All items for restaurant must be stored inside to prevent contamination. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Some portable cutting boards in kitchen areas observed with heavy scratching and deep discolored grooves.
  • Exterior of food equipment throughout kitchen observed with food splatter and residue buildup.
  • Front counter/bar area observed with excessive clutter and items unrelated to restaurant service and interfering with routine cleaning of facility.
  • (5 times repeat violation)Excess food debris and stagnant water accumulation at scattered areas of kitchen. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.
  • (2 times repeat violation)Grease hood system filters do not properly fit into hood system. The Hatfield Township Fire Marshal was contacted during inspection. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal actions.
  • Ceiling light above food prep refrigerators in kitchen is not shielded or shatter resistant.
  • Water observed heavily dripping down from facility grease hood system into black pans. The Hatfield Township Fire Marshal was contacted during inspection.
