33 violations at Korea Garden Restaurant in Blue Bell; Fly-like insects and larvae observed at prep sink drain next to wok, In-use utensils stored in stagnant water

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/28/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Korea Garden Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 33 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Hand sink next to ‘Deli Food’ cooler obstructed at time of inspection.

  • Raw eggs stored over ready-to-eat food in walk-in cooler.

  • Food stored in colander in walk-in cooler and ‘Deli Foods’ cooler.

  • Uncovered dry goods containers at cooks line.

  • Food items stored in plastic grocery bags in multiple freezers.

  • Meat band saw blade unclean.

  • Unclean wares on shelves across from cooks line.

  • Date marking lacking on food containers throughout refrigeration units.

  • Bottles of machine lubricant stored on top shelf at entrance of kitchen.

  • Can of Raid under 3-bay ware washing sink.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Common name label lacking on squeeze bottles at cooks line.

  • Labels lacking on items in secondary containers throughout refrigeration units.

  • Light and airspace at bottom/side of exterior rear door.

  • Fly-like insects and larvae observed at prep sink drain next to wok. Facility has 10 business days to submit proof of professional pest control to MCOPH.

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor in walk-in cooler.

  • Food containers uncovered throughout refrigeration units.

  • Knife stored on shelf of 1-door freezer.

  • Tongs stored on oven door handle along cooks line.

  • In-use utensils stored in stagnant water in between uses at cooks line.

  • Facility hanging utensils and wiping cloth on ANSUL sprinklers above wok.

  • Shipping wrap on ware washing machine. Must remove.

  • Facility using plastic wrap around faucet nozzles to direct flow of water at food prep and ware washing sinks.

  • Cardboard under food trays in cooler at waitstaff station.

  • Fan guards in ‘Deli Food’ cooler are unclean.

  • Water leak under wok.

  • Condensation line from central A/C unit running out of ceiling and draining into hand wash sink at waitstaff station.

  • Covered waste receptacles lacking in women’s restroom.

  • Ceiling tile missing next to cooks line.

  • Floor unclean along cooks line.

  • Exterior of deep fryers unclean.

  • Water pooling on floor under food prep sink next to wok.

  • Damaged light shield above ‘Deli Foods’ cooler.
