The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 9, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Burger King in Whitehall was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found. The same restaurant passed its last two inspections in January 2019 and January 2018 with no violations.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food employees observed in the kitchen prep area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers. Reviewed requirements with the PIC and corrected.
  • Exposed food preparation observed in prep area under dirty ventilation hood (Broiler hood) with heavy accumulation of static dust/Black particles and subject to potential contamination of food.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed Sanitizer dispenser line leaking at the three compartment sink. Corrected on site
  • The floors throughout the facility are littered with old food, trash, and accumulated grease. During inspection, it was observed that fryers and three bay sink area of the food facility is extremely dirty with accumulation of grease/food residues/debris and other paper products. This area need immediate attention and needs to cleaned ASAP
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed heavy accumulation of dust/static grease on the hood filters above three fryers. Also, 3/3 fryers have a heavy build of grease and needs to be cleaned.
