Andora Restaurant Sewickley fouls inspection; Flies are seen hovering over deli slicer, Deflector plate of ice machine has accumulated slime

The Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/23/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Andora Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Cooked rice is sitting on a speed rack in dry food storage and is at 115F. Rice was placed there 15 minutes ago. (see note below)
  • Salmon, hamburger patties, and raw chicken breasts in drawer cooler under grill is at 55F. Meats were placed there recently. Any leftover will be discarded after lunch.
  • Ambient air temperature of drawer cooler is at 50F. Drawer cooler is being open often during service. Cooler will be serviced.
  • Knifes on magnetic strip on cook line and by deli slicer are visibly soiled. Only clean knives may be stored on magnetic strip. Knives were taken down and magnetic strips cleaned.  Back of the blade of deli slicer is visibly soiled. Deli slicer was broken down.
  • Corner behind table with soda machine has accumulated food debris, utensils, and broken glass. Ventilation hood has accumulated grease.
  • Deflector plate of ice machine has accumulated slime.
  • Hand sink on cook line is missing a hand washing sign.
  • Back door by prep room is ajar and has gaps. Flies are seen hovering over deli slicer
  • Walk in cooler and drawer cooler have torn gaskets.  Hank sink in handicap restroom needs to be re caulked.
  • One lid on dumpster is being held open with a broom.
  • One set of lights in kitchen are unprotected.
  • No air is being blown back in by ventilation system.

*The temperature danger zone is food temperatures between 41 and 135 degrees Fahrenheit and the most rapid bacteria growth occurs between 70 and 125 degrees Fahrenheit. The longer food sits in this temperature range, the greater the risk that bacteria will begin to grow on food. These violations are considered, "Food Borne Illness Risk Factor" violations.
