The Chester County Health Department conducted an expected retail food re-inspection on 1/21/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Avocado’s From Mexico was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed open container of ice cream shells inside the cabinet under the juice dispensers located in the front service area. Store in a manner to prevent contamination using containers with tight fitting covers.
  • Tray of multi-use utensils located on a wire rack to the right of the 3 bay sink not maintained clean to the sight and touch- observed pieces of nacho chips and crumbs inside the tray. Clean and sanitize all utensils and store in a manner to prevent contamination.
  • Reattach the vinyl base cove to the right of the deep fryers- visible gap between wall/base cove- food/grease accumulation was observed.
  • Observed juvenile cockroach crawling on dining table. Observed numerous dead adult cockroaches under the unused steam table pans. A Significant amount of food debris accumulation was observed under the steam table pans. Observed dead nymph cockroach inside cabinet under the hand sink in the kitchen- from previous inspection. Clean up all cockroach remains today and clean and sanitize all affected surfaces. It should be noted that the previously requested 3 months of pest control reports were not provided. Contact your pest control company today to schedule a site assessment/evaluation. It is recommended that glue board monitors be placed and dated. In addition, the apartments upstairs should be inspected for evidence of pests and treated accordingly.
  • No air gap drain connection is provided for the ice machine. The ice machine drain hose was observed draining into a 5 gallon water container on the floor in front of the ice machine. Discontinue use of the ice machine today.
  • Clean and remove all unused items from inside the cabinet under the kitchen hand sink. Clean all food debris under the steam table pans.
  • Personal use medicines stored inside steam table pans on top of unused steam table adjacent to the bain marie. All personal care items must be stored segregated from food preparation/food storage areas.
  • Open container of garlic/oil mixture & mayonnaise stored at room temperature. The surface temperature was observed at 56F. Both containers stated to “Refrigerate After Opening” on the manufacturer’s label. These products were discarded during the inspection. Ensure that you read the manufacturer’s label instructions as these products must be maintained at 41F or less after opening.
  • The handwash sink in the kitchen was blocked with several paper bags of bread and not accessible at all times for employee use. Ensure that the hand sink is accessible at all times. These paper bags were removed from the hand sink during the inspection.

Avocado From Mexico in Oxford has German cockroaches says Chesco Restaurant inspector
