Brunos Restaurant, “observed cockroach like insect;” 13 violations for Lafayette Hill eatery following Health Department inspection

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 6, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Bruno’s Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Current CFSM certificate not posted in public view.

  • Roasted vegetables and leafy greens stored in ice baths observed above 41F. Employee indicated that items were removed from walk-in refrigerator 30 minutes before beginning of inspection. Facility will use time in lieu of temperature for today. Items, if not sold, will be discarded by 3:30pm.

  • Ready-to-eat deli meats stored in walk-in refrigerator and held in facility for more than 24 hours missing discard date markings. Label should indicate the date by which the food shall be consumed on the premises, sold or discarded; date not to exceed 7 days.

  • (Repeat violation) Bleach spray working container lacking labeling.

  • Cockroach-like insect observed on glue traps in front area, near freezers. Clean and sanitize areas and have licensed pest control service. Send pest control report to MCOPH within 10 business days, email provided. Pest control report must state treatment and target pest.

  • Open boxes of to-go containers stored directly on the floor in basement.

  • (Repeat violation) Door handle and corner of pastry sliding glass refrigerator damaged.

  • (Repeat violation) Excessive food debris and corroded metal accumulation observed inside main prep refrigerator at cook’s line (under cooling unit). Employee cleaned and sanitized unit at time of inspection.

  • (Repeat violation) Food debris accumulation observed in deli prep refrigerator at cook’s line, inside reach-down freezers, on door tracks of reach-down freezers, and doors of dessert display refrigerator. Clean and sanitize.

  • (Repeat violation) Interior metal shield of ice machine observed with black substance accumulation. Clean and sanitize.

  • (2 times repeat violation) Missing and damaged floor tiles below prep table with sink (back).

  • (Repeat violation) Food residue, grease, and spillage buildup observed on floors under cooking equipment and freezers in front area.

  • (Repeat violation) Fluorescent light inside of dessert refrigerator not shielded or shatter resistant.
