The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 23, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Burger Hut 2 in Butler was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. All dishware that was run through the dish wash machine must be sanitized in the three bowl sink, which was being completed during this inspection. Service call was made to the dish wash machine repair service. Continue to use one of the three bowl sinks to sanitize the dishware after the items have been run through the dish wash machine until the dish wash machine has been repaired. 5 days to correct.
  • Found cold water, as observed at front kitchen hand wash sink, is not under pressure during inspection. 5 days to correct
  • The hand wash sink located in the front kitchen area does not cold water, only hot water which was at 125F degrees, 5 days to correct.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Correct by 1/3/2020.
  • Observed several dishes and bowls used for customers are chipped and need replaced with new, are not durable under this usage condition. 5 days to correct.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of grease, old food spills, and dirt, the following items; basement floor needs swept and cleaned, basement stairs, (theirs an odor in the basement), all kitchen equipment, front counters, kitchen walls, inside walk in cooler floor and shelves, 5 days to correct.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed several leaking at the front kitchen under coffee maker. 5 days to correct.
  • Found several floor tiles, some kitchen wall (mainly in dish wash area), are made of worn, cracked missing, broken tiles, wall board, end caps coving, top laminate and are not a smooth, easily cleanable surface, non-porous, easily cleanable, and durable surfaces. Correct by 06/23/2020.
  • Food facility does not provide lockers or storage for food employee personal clothing and possessions, found food not for this facility not labeled and stored on the floor in the kitchen. Remove from facility or add lockers, One day to correct.
  • Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration, 5 days to correct.
  • Paper towel dispenser empty at the hand wash sink in the front kitchen area. COS*
  • All flooring in this facilty is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning. 5 days to correct.
