The Bucks County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/26/21. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Bensalem Wholesale Foods Outlet was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 8 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

Employee used cell phone and did not immediately remove gloves to wash and reapply clean gloves.
Employee came from meat room into deli to slice meat and did not remove gloves to wash and reapply clean gloves.  New Violation.  
*Prep sink shows accumulation of residue. This should be cleaned between types of meat, especially after using for poultry. They also must be cleaned and sanitized at frequency needed to maintain clean to sight and touch.
Clean immediately and maintain.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 01/26/2021  
Several items appeared to be in unsafe condition. Food should be regularly insepcted for signs of spoilage and/or compromised packaging.
These were voluntarily discarded:
-Opened meat in broken reduced oxygen package
-Bloated ice tea gallon
-Pickle jar with no liquid  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.  

Boiled, unshelled eggs were in containers with no date. This is a ready-to-eat, time/temperature controlled for safety food. These were voluntarily discarded.

Refrigerated, ready-to-eat, TCS food prepared and held in a food facility for more than 24 hours shall be clearly marked to be sold or discarded within 7 days or the manufacturers “use by” date, whichever comes first.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.  

Sour cream and yogurt were observed bearing dates of Nov and Dec 2020. These were discarded voluntarily.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.  
Scraps (for food) stored behind electric conduit lines in meat room.
This area is not clean and sanitized. Removed to ware washing area.  Corrected On-Site.  New Violation.  
Dividers in freezer not replaced in freezer the nearest deli and on opposing side of freezer as required on 11/10/20. Dividers will be discarded per manager and owner. Any replacements must be smooth, cleanable, durable, and nonabsorbent.  New Violation.  
Many ceiling tiles in the customer area appear to have widespread dark markings that appear to be a mold-like or mildew-like substance. There are several in the meat room in the same condition.
The ceiling tiles must be replaced and must be smooth, cleanable, and nonabsorbent.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 02/15/2021  
3-compartment sink shows accumulation of residue.
Sinks and wash solutions shall be maintained clean to sight and touch.  New Violation. To be Corrected By: 01/26/2021  
Open chest (“coffin”) freezers not defrosted regularly and maintained clean to sight and touch.
These must be defrosted and cleaned/sanitized regularly. This was noted in reports on 8/31/20 and 9/25/20.  New Violation.  
 
 
General Remarks

Full inspection not performed. Visit pursuant to consumer complaint regarding what appears to be black mold on ceiling tiles.
Violations noted are based on observations during cursory inspection of facility.

Compliance inspection will occur. Regulatory fee may be applied.
