The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/24/2020 following the receipt of a COVID-19 complaint. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Giuseppe’s Pizza & Family Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector stated in the report:

Inspection conducted after receiving a Covid-19 related complaint. At time of inspection two employees in kitchen were lacking face covering. Employees placed face masks on during inspection. 

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • (3 times repeat violation)Many employee beverages found stored on or above food prep surfaces, with clean utensils and equipment, and inside refrigeration units. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in legal action.

  • Heavily dented cans of kidney beans found in dry storage room.

  • Interior of ice machine observed with black mold-like residue on ice shield.

  • Interior of soda gun heads observed with mold-like residue behind bar and at coffee station.

  • Bottles of medication and first aid supplies stored next to and above food items in dry storage room.

  • Back door in kitchen found propped open during inspection without screen protection.

  • Boxes of food items stored directly on floor of walk-in refrigerator and walk-in freezer.

  • Food handler lacking hair restraint.

  • (3 times repeat violation)Mold like substance and residue build-up at bar soda gun holsters and coffee station soda gun holsters. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in legal action.

  • Mop sink found clogged. Facility cleaned and unclogged mop sink during inspection.

  • Raw wood repairs found on ceiling throughout kitchen areas. Provide smooth, non-porous, easily cleanable surface.

  • Black mold-like growth observed on floor and walls around soda box equipment behind bar.
