The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 1/11/2021. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Curry Kitchen was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Observed 9 live mature and 3 live Immature cockroaches under cook line in kitchen food prep area.
  • Food dispensing utensil in bulk salt and bulk sugar containers observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container.
  • Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.
  • The handwash sink located in the front counter food service area does not have water at a temperature of at least 100°F.
  • Manual ware washing equipment 3 bay sink, observed with build up of filth and food residue and not cleaned before use, and frequently throughout the day.
  • The food facility does not have a working handwash sink located in the food prep / ware washing area.
  • Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the food prep area.
  • Food facility is not removing dead or trapped pests from control devices frequently, as evidenced by observed old / decaying mature and immature cockroaches in pest control device in the kitchen area. Observed approximately 10-15 old dead mature cockroaches in storage areas and kitchen floors along wall floor coving.
  • Food facility does not have available chlorine sanitizer test strips or test kit available to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration
  • Food prep tables and counters a food contact surface, was observed to have old food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Knife, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Observed old food residue on manual can opener blade and gear.
  • Ceiling tiles missing above ware wash station, and need replaced.
  • A Restricted use pesticide is being applied in the food facility by a non-certified applicator as observed with an OTC pesticide under warewash station. Facility will cease self applying pesticides in this food facility.
