The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 9, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Ga Yeon Rice Cake was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Employee beverage on packing/labeling table and in prep area hand wash sink basin.

  • (2XR)Front hand sink blocked by decorative screen. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may result in further legal action.

  • Cold water handle on front area hand wash sink inoperable. Facility repaired during inspection.

  • Prep area hand washing sink obstructed by prep table.

  • Raw shell eggs for employee personal use stored on shelving in prep area with clean utensils and ready to eat foods items. Eggs were removed from prep area.

  • Time marking sticker system lacking on TCS packaged products.

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste stored on clean storage rack above food prep sink.

  • Non-food grade hose attached to cold water line at cook’s line and used to fill pots etc. Must use food grade hose.

  • Heavy ice accumulation observed throughout interior of walk-in freezer with ice on food items.

  • Quaternary test strips observed stored inside old empty pill bottle and observed with mold-like growth above 3 compartment sink. Facility located new test strips.

  • Hose attached to three basin sink faucet, lacks air gap.

  • Facility mop sink obstructed by cardboard trash.

  • Facility removed grease hood system filters. Filters were placed back into hood system during inspection.
