The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 10, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Gallo Tropical Restaurant was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 17 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Inspection request signage not posted at time of inspection. One sign issued.

  • Facility lacking a MCOPH CFSM. Facility has 6 months to obtain an approved CFSM certification or apply for an exemption. by 7/10/2020

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection. EHS one example procedure form.

  • Front service area hand sink obstructed by cases of beverages.

  • Facility observed washing and rinsing wares but skipping sanitizing step. Sanitizer filled and all washed wares placed in cl sanitizer.

  • Foods in containers on griddle such as soups and sauces with meat intended for hot holding not being maintained at the approved hot holding temp of 135 degree F or higher. Facility rapidly reheated food to 165 degrees f and turned up griddle to maintain temp of foods.

  • Facility thawing raw meats in food prep sink without cold running water on products.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Individual packaged pie slices in refrigerator in retail area lacking labels. Facility removed to rear refrigerator.

  • Dried rice in tote not elevated a minimum of 6 inches off ground.

  • Mixing bowls stored on ground under ware rack.

  • Single service items stored around basin of front service area hand sink.

  • Pint without handle used as scoop in cooked rice.

  • Rice in tote stored in black trash bag. Use clear food grade plastic for dry food storage such as rice.

  • Plumbing leak observed under ware wash sink. Repair.

  • Covered waste receptacle lacking in employee restroom.

  • Unapproved ceiling tiles at front buffet service area. Tiles must be smooth non-porous and cleanable. Install by 7/10/2020.
