The Chester County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 25, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Dunkin’ Donuts in Avondale was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 6 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Scoop being stored in the ice machine with handle buried beneath the ice.
  • Employee observed touching her face then handling food service equipment without hand washing between. This was addressed on-site. Inform/remind employee of proper hand washing.
  • Fly strip observed hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the prep area near the three compartment sink. Remove immediately. Only methods of pest control that do not risk contamination may be used.
  • Several cockroaches observed on glue board on the counter under the iced coffee containers. Other glue boards in facility were empty. Also, several gnats/gnat-like observed around the donut display case. Facility was last treated by pest control operator on 11/15. 1. Contact a certified Pest Control Operator immediately and have the facility treated within 24 hours. Treat as needed to eliminate pests. Maintain copies of all pest control reports on-site. Glue boards must be date marked. 2. Prior to treatment, thoroughly clean the facility; maintain all surfaces and equipment in clean condition. 3. Maintain all foods tightly covered. 4. Reduce the amount of cardboard in the facility 5. Keep all exterior doors closed
  • Thoroughly clean the following: a. Between the two bain marie units b. Floor drains throughout including next to the Turbo Chef ovens and by the registers c. Outer surface of the drain line of the 3-compartment sink d. Sides of the Turbo Chef oven
  • Repair the cove base under the three compartment sink and around the hot water heater.
  • Several pieces of unused equipment observed in the back storage area. These provide harborage areas for vectors and do not allow for easy cleaning. The equipment includes Coolata Machine, Turbo Chef, Coffee brewers.
