The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 7/10/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Goombas Pizzaria¬† was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 13 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Inspection conducted upon MCOPH receiving a customer-related complaint regarding employees not properly wearing masks. EHS observed no employees wearing masks at time of inspection. EHS instructed PIC to immediately have all employees don face masks.
  • Facility food establishment license obscured at time of inspection.

  • Opened employee beverage stored in pizza prep refrigerator adjacent to foods for customer service. Facility voluntarily discarded item during inspection.

  • All TCS foods in pizza prep refrigerator observed with internal temperatures above an approved range. Items observed with internal temperatures between 55 and 71F. Facility voluntarily discarded all TCS foods. Facility must provide MCOPH with a list of all food items discarded with quantities. (see note below)

  • All TCS foods in 2 door reach-in refrigerator observed with internal temperatures above an approved range. Items observed with internal temperatures between 61-63F. Facility voluntarily discarded all TCS foods. Facility must provide MCOPH with a list of all food items discarded with quantities.

  • Unlabeled chemical spray bottle observed near register area.

  • All TCS foods in pizza prep refrigerator observed with internal temperatures between 55-71F. Facility voluntarily discarded all TCS foods at time of inspection. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. E-mail service report to email provided at time of inspection. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.

  • All TCS foods in cook’s line 2 door reach-in refrigerator observed with internal temperatures between 60-63F. Facility voluntarily discarded all TCS foods at time of inspection. Facility must immediately stop using the unit. Facility may not use the unit until serviced by licensed professional, AND unit is operating at 41F or below, AND written permission is granted by MCOPH. E-mail service report to email provided at time of inspection. Failure to comply or await permission before using unit may lead to legal action.

  • Live fly-like insects observed throughout facility. Facility must be treated by professional pest control service. E-mail service report to MCOPH with in 10 business days. E-mail MCOPH at e-mail address provided at time of inspection.

  • Facility doors open at time of inspection. (gives access to vermin)

  • (5 times repeat violation) Rust-like accumulation observed on shelving in walk-in refrigerator. Failure to correct and maintain multiple repeat violations may lead to further legal action.

  • Bottom of ice cream freezer observed with spill accumulation.

  • Self-closing mechanism on bathroom door not functional.

  • Light bulbs above pizza prep area observed to be non-shatter resistant and lacking shatter shields.
