The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 2/27/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Paul’s Pit Stop at  Greencastle Sunoco was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 9 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

• Food employees observed in the grill area, not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets, hats, or beard covers.
• Various deli lunch meats and cheeses, a refrigerated ready to eat time/temperature control for safety food, in the deli/sandwich area, was not compliant with datemarking by being labeled with a discard or use by date of no more than 7 days, and requires discarding.
• Old unused equipment stored throughout the facility.
• Observed cardboard on shelving in the walk-in cooler, it had a mold-like residue and is not smooth or non-absorbent.
• Mops are not being hung to air dry.
• Unisex toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.
• Hard-boiled eggs and biscuits observed in the Continental refrigerator, were slimy to the touch/spoiled/moldy and is adulterated.
• Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration
• Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply the restroom sink at the time of this inspection
