Health Department finds live mouse on sticky trap at Smiling Banana Leaf II in Pittsburgh during inspection

The Allegheny County Health Department’s Food Safety Program conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 3, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Smiling Banana Leaf II was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 5 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • No cooling charts for prepared foods
  • Large containers of sauce found with condensation on the lids. This indicates improper cooling, cool all foods uncovered.
  • Prepared foods marked with a prep date but not a 7 day discard date.
  • Hand sink blocked by a trash can and only hand sanitizer was available. Provide access and soap.
  • A live mouse found on a sticky trap in the bulk take out container room (with the stairs that lead upstairs). No other signs of chewed product or droppings. Facility has a pest management company that treats monthly. Continue to monitor and increase treatment as necessary.
