The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 15, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Michael’s Italian Restaurant & Deli was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 12 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • (2 times repeat violation) Facility lacking a MCOPH CFSM. Facility showed proof of registration in an approved food safety course at time of inspection

  • Common name label lacking on squeeze bottles at cooks line.

  • Rodent-like droppings observed throughout back of facility. Facility has 10 business days to provide proof of next professional pest control treatment to MCOPH

  • Front door propped open upon arrival. (Doors must be kept closed to keep animals and insects out of food establishments)

  • Containers/boxes of food stored on floor in walk-in freezer.

  • Tongs stored on oven door handle along cooks line.

  • Knives stored in space between prep unit and counter.

  • Food stored in opened and original can.

  • Plastic shipping wrap peeling from microwaves

  • Ceiling vents along cooks line are unclean

  • Cove base missing on entire wall opposite prep side of the kitchen

  • Mop not stored hanging or inverted to dry.
