Health Department slaps Tredyffrin TWP McDonald’s with 10 violations, “cleaning schedule required by the Department in September 2018 is no longer posted or being completed by staff”

The Chester County Health Department conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 17, 2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the McDonald’s in Tredyffrin¬† Township was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Food Employee observed donning single use gloves without a prior hand wash.
  • Reach in 2 drawer unit on cook line observed with containers with use by dates of 1/13/2020. It was determined that all date labels are not being removed during ware wash. Ensure all date labels are removed during ware wash. Inform staff – Enforce through managerial team.
  • It shall be noted that the daily routine cleaning schedule required by the Department in September 2018 is no longer posted or being completed by staff team members documented by initials. Excessive grease build up and ponding observed under the grill line and fryer line floor. Implement cleaning schedule immediately. These areas shall be cleaned ever night prior to closing, all equipment is on casters and must be pulled out and floors must be cleaned. Inform staff, enforce through managerial team ASAP. The following areas observed with crumb, splash, grease, and debris; 1-Grill line floor*(Daily) 2-Fryer line floor and inside lower cabinet of fryer units. (Daily) 3-Drive thru floor – under soda dispenser and cabinets left side; eliminate all ponding water – floor grout installation may be required after re-inspection. 4-All Floor sinks throughout facility; eliminate grime and build up inside 5-Ceiling vent at drive thru pick up
  • The hand wash sink on cook line being used as a food preparation sink as evidenced by observed food in the sink and onion wash observed. Rashida corrected on site with team members.
  • Time control all utensils on cook line in food safety book and document rotation or effective wash / rinse / sanitize has been completed prior to reuse.
  • The following equipment not observed in good repair; 1-Upper freezer reach in on cook line observed with torn lower and side gasket 2-Cracked long white breakfast spatula; replace ASAP 3-Air curtain at drive thru pick up not working for summer setting. Winter setting OK 4-Broken shelving unit – middle shelf far back unit to left of walk in cooler. 5-Excess ice build up on walk in freezer door, cord cut at door and door jamb, indicating the heat tape is no longer operating. Have unit serviced and heat tape repaired.
  • Ware washing techniques observed incorrect. Staff observed wash/ sanitize / rinse, rather than wash / rinse / sanitize / air dry. Rashida informed staff. Post CCHD provided literature on wall (English & Spanish) to ensure proper ware washing is completed.
  • Invert all ice buckets and place ice scoop in ice machine at provided location on right side. Rashida corrected on site.
  • Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – 1-Leak at three bay sink trap 2-Leak at soda dispensing unit at dining island. 3-Leak observed at soda dispenser ar drive thru 4- provide hot water valve lower level for when moping floors 5-Ice Tea in direct air gap may be leaking as evidence of a spill at bottom of stairwell. 6- Remove all leaves and debris at bottom of exterior stairwell. This needs to be done daily to ensure the drain is clear and confirm water will not flood the basement.
  • Replace all light bulbs not working on the lower level and ensure they are shielded or shatter proof.
  • Hot hold plastic trays (corner edges) and wire trays a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue, grease build up, and was not clean to sight and touch. Provide better cleaning equipment such as a bristled scrubber.
  • Repair the following; 1-Lower basement door threshold 2-Secure rear door handle 3-Provide missing wall edge coving to left of hand sink on cook line. 4-Office door way upper trim missing 5-Loose quarry tile observed in drive thru under soda dispenser – secure to floor and provide additional grout.
  • Facility has failed to post the CCHD license to operate and CCHD certified food manager in public view.
