The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 5/29/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Kentucky Fried Chicken-Long John Silvers restaurant in Mechanicsburg was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 10 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Observed Food Employee handle cell phone and then do food preparation tasks without changing gloves.
- Observed shelving under hot/cold holding area on front line, a non-food contact surface, not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil.
- Floor, in the fryer area, has multiple tiles missing, which have become filled with grease/dirt/dust and debris, this is not a durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent, easily cleanable area.
- Observed cases of Chicken food stored directly on the floor in walk in cooler area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected at the time of the inspection by Steve. (stack of cases had fallen over)
- Observed One-Step Potato Mix case food stored directly on the floor in the electrical panel box area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected at the time of the inspection by Steve.
- Interior of ice machine, ice holding area, a food contact surface, was observed to have mildew like residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
- The handwash sink in the three bay sink area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device. Corrected at the time of the inspection by Steve.
- Potential rodent harborage areas on the exterior of the building, observed in the dumpster corral area, due to large pile of cardboard boxes.
- Observed employee personal drinks sitting in several areas throughout the facility. A specific area should be designated and marked for employee food and/or drinks.
- The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
- “Egg crate” air return covers, equipment, in multiple areas throughout the facility, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, debris on non-food contact surfaces.
- Observed floors and frying equipment, in the cooks line a area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces.
- Observed Ice maker equipment, in kitchen area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Exterior front louvers.
