The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 4, 2019.* As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Durango’s Saloon in Boyertown was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 15 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • The bottom of the Beverage Air Beer Cooler at the Bar, has observable standing water, and black mold build up.
  • The interior of the Hoshizaki Ice Machine in the basement has an observable black mold like build up.
  • Floor tiles in the Kitchen are missing and cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface.
  • The floor under, the wall behind, and the ceiling above the fryer/grill area have an observable grease like build up.
  • The Person in Charge does not have adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Interior of microwave in the kitchen, has old spilled food build up inside.
  • The Hobart Meat Slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected onsite.
  • Shelving and bottom shelf areas in all cooling units, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required.
  • There are several lights burned out in the kitchen.
  • Walls and floor in the kitchen area of the food facility are dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.
  • There is observable old food product spillage on the floor in the beer cooler in the basement.
  • Observed various types of pie slices in the Kenmore Freezer stored open with no covering. Corrected onsite by disposal.
  • Observed single service items, stored directly on the floor in the basement, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required.
  • The outsides of all cooling units have observable amount of old food product build up.
  • The Protective Shielding is missing on the second light in the kitchen.
