The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Office of Public Health (MCOPH) conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on 6/30/2020. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations Crown Fried Chicken was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 26 violations were found and include one or more violations determined to be food borne illness risk factors.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Facility lacking inspection report availability sign.

  • Facility lacking a MCOPH CFSM. (Certified Food Safety Manager) Facility has 6 months to obtain an approved CFSM certification or apply for an exemption.

  • Facility is lacking a written vomit/fecal incident procedure at time of inspection

  • Hand sink lacking soap.

  • Facility lacking soap at hand sink.

  • Hand wash sink blocked.

  • Raw food stored over ready to eat food items. (could drip)

  • Date marking lacking on food containers in refrigeration.

  • Facility lacking visible accurate thermometers in several cold units.

  • Common name label lacking on squeeze bottles.

  • Light and airspace at bottom/side of exterior doors. (gives access to rodents)

  • Facility preparing raw chicken at ware washing sink.

  • Food containers stored in food prep sink.

  • Food handler lacking hair restraint

  • Facility lacking wiping cloths.

  • Tongs stored on oven door handle along cooks line.

  • Ice cream scoop stored in stagnant container.

  • Single use containers stored right side up behind counter. Boxes of single use containers stored on floor of dry storage room.

  • Cardboard lining shelves in walk-in cooler. Foil lining shelves at cooks line.

  • Ice build-up in multiple freezers.

  • Foil used to line shelves in hot-holding unit.

  • Lacking test strips for chlorine sanitizer.

  • Damaged lid on chest freezer next to cooks line. Insulation exposed.

  • Walk-in cooler drain line lacking insulation.

  • Covered waste receptacle lacking in unisex and/or women’s restroom.

  • Mop not stored hanging or inverted to dry.
